  Volunteer Opportunities

  • Sponsor a fundraiser - In order for us to focus on the women who need our help, we ask churches and organizations to take ownership of our fundraisers.  We will assist in the planning, but you provide the location, volunteers, and marketing.

  • Christmas Decorations - Canton is known as the 'City of Lights' at Christmas.  We want youth groups to come help us decorate before the holidays and then help us take down after the New Year.  Each person brings a string of white lights or 'icicle lights' to the Christmas Village between Sunday, November 26th and Thursday, December 1st.

  • Cooking Carousel - In 2007, we are looking for ladies groups to pick a week and instruct our girls in the kitchen.

  • Each evening, Monday thru Thursday, a volunteer from the group brings the recipes for meat, vegetables, dessert, etc., and teaches our residents to prepare, with their hands-on assistance

  • The volunteers will eat with the residents and lead a devotional after dinner

  • On Wednesday night, our residents will attend church with the sponsoring group of that week
*At the end of a resident's stay, she will have a collection of recipes from our Cooking Carousel

  Support Our Fund Raisers
The Christmas Village fundraisers are held throughout the year. Here are just a few of the fund raising ideas that hope to do. Of course, some will require that our facilities are completed first.
Mississippi Rising Stars CD: Seven Mississippi Christian recording artists who support sanctity of life have donated songs to this compilation CD filled with uplifting songs of praise and thanks.  Artists include Catherine Carter, Kelly Clinger, Joey Everett, David Huff, DaRon Maughon, Christal Noel, and Bridget Taylor.  Makes a great gift! Support The Christmas Village, a Christian ministry

Christmas in July was a women's conference held July 28th and 29th at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.  Guest speaker and vocal artist is Bridget Taylor of Oxford, Mississippi.  The theme is I Choose Joy.  Cost is $20. Door prizes, Food, Fun, Fellowship.  Childcare is provided and pre-registration is requested.  Bridget will return next year (2007) with a new message.

Fashion Your Future is a program that has grown from a Katrina Relief Program.  Donations to clothe women will benefit The Christmas Village.  You can specify that your donation go to clothe a woman at The Christmas Village or a disaster victim.  Either way, 10% is tithed to The Christmas Village.

Spring Garden Party will be held May 5, 2007 in the backyard.  We are contacting local celebrities and elected officials to host tables and be our 'celebrity waiters'.  They will compete to see whose table raises the most money.  We will also have a silent auction of local art.  We are asking area restaurants and caterers to donate the menu.

The Christmas Village Bakery:
The Christmas Village will have a commercial kitchen to meet the needs of a campus of young women to feed.  The opportunity for our Guests to learn to cook is only one benefit to the facilities.  Would you like to help teach baking or cooking?  Will you consider purchasing fresh baked goods, shipped Overnight Express, for holiday gifts or special occasions?  They will be cooked with love.  Anyone in the state of Mississippi will tell you that the best petit fours come from Miss Lou and the Christmas Village Bakery.

  Contribute Items or Services
Are you a business owner? Do you have access to basic needs at a discount?  Contributions may come in the form of goods, services, property or cash.  Every item, from clothing to computers, from lunch meat to lawn equipment, a residential campus needs everything your home needs as well as everything a school or office needs.  Your contribution, regardless of whether you think it large or small, is a blessing that can be magnified by someone in need. If you would like to pledge items or services, click here.

  Become An Angel
Like any organization that relies on private contributions, we will show our appreciation to those who God gives the blessing of creating wealth, and who act as stewards of that wealth, to fund missions both near and far. Angels will be individuals, church or civic organizations, or corporations who make lump-sum donations. If you would like to pledge to become an angel, click here.

  Become A Partner
Partners see their participation in the Christmas Village as a long-term commitment.  A partner may be a Sunday School class that agrees to donate $50 a month.  Perhaps you created a trust fund or bought an annuity that pays a monthly scholarship that assists young women who come to us for help.  Your church may want to sponsor a cottage.  If you like to become a partner, click here.

  Sponsor A Cottage
Perhaps you want to give thanks for adoptive parents that made a life for you, or perhaps you want to create a living memorial, a Cottage Sponsor will provide safe-haven for women in a crisis pregnancy and their unborn children for years to come.  A sponsor may be an individual, a trust, a congregation, a group of small churches, a business, or perhaps a city of concerned citizens.

  • Provide for the building of the cottage - the cost of a cottage is only for materials and finish skills.  Area churches have already committed to the labor of framing each cottage.

  • Furnish the cottage - furnishings for 5 bedrooms & baths, one living room, and rocking chairs for the back patio.

  • Pay for cottage utilities - water, lights, and heat/air conditioning

  • Give baby showers for residents - depending on whether our resident guests decide to parent their child or place it for adoption, this may be a baby shower or may be a 'graduation' party.
Sponsoring a cottage is a wonderful expression of your commitment to the growth of The Christmas Village.  In 2003, there were over one million reported unborn children aborted in the United States.  In Mississippi, we had nearly 3,600 reports of aborted pregnancies.  If 1% of these young women in Mississippi wanted time and shelter to make an informed decision about what was best for their child and themselves, then there would have been a need for 9 cottages.  Our plans include 12 cottages to meet the needs of women in crisis pregnancies.
